Being the Church Instead of Going to Church

Jun 4, 2025    Shelby Durham

Declining church engagement and disillusionment indicate a critical disconnect: the modern church often falls short of New Testament Christianity. Many perceive the church as hypocritical and irrelevant, while active members often exhibit spiritual immaturity and have experienced "church hurt." This crisis stems from two major errors: relying on human effort instead of the Holy Spirit, and compromising the Gospel for worldly acceptance. These missteps have led to lukewarm believers and a church indistinguishable from secular society. True revival requires a return to biblical principles, emphasizing Spirit-empowered living and an uncompromised Gospel. The call is for believers to actively be the Church, embodying Christ's transformative power, rather than passively going to church, to effectively draw people into authentic discipleship.
